The Alive and Thrive Pack
was put together by the Suffolk Disability and Health Action Group.
This Group was set up in 1997 to try to encourage disabled people
to look after their health.
This Group reports to the
Suffolk Physical and Sensory Disabilities Partnership Board which
has representation from Health, Social Care, Voluntary Organisations,
disabled people and family carers.
After holding some Access
into Health events in Suffolk, which raised awareness of health issues
for disabled people, the Suffolk Disability and Health Action Group
looked at information which was available to help non disabled people
to stay healthy and discovered that this information did not include
disabled people. Therefore, the Group decided to put together a pack
of information sheets specially designed for all disabled people.
These information sheets
cover a wide range of issues and the Group hopes that disabled people
will be encouraged to become more active. It can be proved that even
small amounts of activity can improve the health of disabled people
and so improve their quality of life.
